Sharonville decides against I-275 buffers

SHARONVILLE After residents complained that proposed noise buffers along Interstate 275 were ugly and too expensive, City Council rejected the state's $2 million plan to erect the barriers.
Council members voted unanimously Tuesday night.
State officials said the walls would have gone up in 2002 at a cost of $1.7 million to $2 million. Sharonville would have had to pay $940,000 of the cost, city officials said.
Now that council voted against the walls, that's it, said Christine Pope, assis tant to the mayor.
Similar noise barriers have been erected elsewhere along highways in the Tristate.
The state won't erect the barriers unless local communities and residents want them, Ohio Transportation Department spokeswoman Kim Patton said Thursday.
