Woman's clothes set on fire

Husband charged in attack

By
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FLORENCE — A woman whose husband allegedly tried to kill her by setting her clothes on fire suffered burns to her chest, torso and hair but refused medical treatment, said Florence Police Lt. John Davis.

The 45-year-old woman, whose name police are not disclosing, refused to be transported to a hospital after Florence Police responded to a domestic dispute call at the married couple's Virginia Avenue home around 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Her husband Doug A. Williams, 47, was not there when police arrived. But she told them that he had set her clothes on fire, held a pocketknife to her throat and pointed the weapon threateningly at her heart before driving away in his vehicle, a yellow Geo Storm.

Florence police sought help in locating Mr. Williams. Edgewood police pulled over his vehicle Thursday evening and Mr. Williams surrendered peacefully.

He was arraigned Friday on charges of attempted murder, unlawful imprisonment, wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening. He was in Boone County Jail on Friday evening, pending payment of a $250,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday 2 before Boone District Judge Michael Collins.
