The Associated PressCOLUMBUS — Dentists who have complained for months about poor treatment by the State Dental Board are getting the chance to make their case to state lawmakers.
An Ohio House committee Thursday began a series of four weekly hearings based on complaints lodged against the board, including a state inspector general's report that found the appearance of impropriety in the board's handling of some cases.
“We hope if there's a glitch in the process that they're using, if it's unfair to the dentists, that we can have that corrected,” said State Rep. Dale Van Vyven, a Sharonville Republican, chairman of the House Health, Retirement and Aging Committee.
“... All I know is the dentists seem to think it's a process where they don't get to know anything about it upfront,” he said.
The board tests and licenses about 7,450 dentists and 6,360 dental hygienists statewide.
Lili Kaczmarek, the board's executive director, has said repeatedly that criticism of the board has come from a few dentists displeased with the result of their disciplinary hearings.
