Driver tells sheriff he hit cyclist
By Allen Howard
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A man accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident remained in jail Friday, charged with three felonies, after turning himself in late Thursday.
Eric Tepe, 29, of Lawrenceburg, turned himself in to the Hamilton County Sheriff's office and said he was the driver of the 1983 Ford Econoline van that caused the death Wednesday night of Frank E. Volski, 46, of Mount Airy.
Mr. Tepe faces felony charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an auto crash and tampering with evidence
Mr. Tepe, who appeared in Hamilton County Municipal Court Friday, also faces misdemeanor charges of domestic violence in 1999 and operating a vehicle without a license in 1998.
He will appear in court at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on the felony charges. The misdemeanor charges will be heard May 23.
Total bond for all charges was set at $55,000.
Mr. Volski's relatives described him as friendly and full of life.
He was a people's person who often made people laugh, said his brother, Dean Volski of Colerain Township. He was divorced, but he cared for his children. They lived in Dayton, but he never missed a week of going there and picking them up.
Authorities said Mr. Tepe crashed into Mr. Volski as he sat on his motorcycle, parked under the Race Road overpass on Interstate 74 in Green Township. Mr. Volski was pronounced dead at the scene.
An accident report indicated that Mr. Volski was waiting for rain to stop. He was on his 2000 Harley Davidson, parked on the right berm, eastbound on I-74.
Mr. Tepe's van, also eastbound, veered off the road and struck the rear of the motorcycle, police said.
Mr. Tepe left the van, removed the license plates and fled on foot, the report said.
Mr. Volski's survivors include a daughter, Robyn, 16,and son, Ryan, 14, both of Dayton; his father, Frank Volski of St. Louis; four sisters, Anna Arnold of Plainview, Texas, Linda Leech of Colerain Township, Joni Collucci of Cheviot and Angie Volski of Miamitown; and two other brothers, Frank Carter of Amelia and Ronald Carter of Colerain Township.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hodapp John Funeral Home, 7401 Vine St., Carthage.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Ave., Winton Place.
