Cyclones move on in playoffs


Will face Grand Rapids or Cleveland in next round

        ORLANDO, Fla. — The Cincinnati Cyclones defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 1-0 late Saturday night to clinch their Eastern Conference second-round playoff series.

        The Cyclones won the best-of-seven series 4-2.

        Cincinnati was making it return to Orlando after los ing a 2-1 triple overtime game April 28 in Game 2 of the series.

        Craig MacDonald scored Cincinnati's winning goal Saturday night with 12:30 left in the first period. Todd Simon and Brian Felsner as sisted on the score.

        Orlando took a whopping 33 shots on goal, but all were deflected by Cincinnati goalie Randy Putruk. The Cyclones took only 16 shots on goal.

        Both teams could not convert several power-play opportunities. The Cyclones were 0-for-4. The Solar Bears were 0-for-5.

        Cincinnati will play the winner of the Grand Rapids-Cleveland series for the Eastern Conference title. The Griffins lead the series 3-2.

        In the Western Conference, Chicago will play Houston for the conference title.
