2 casinos 'win' $42M in April

By Cliff Peale
The Cincinnati Enquirer

More than 900,000 gamblers poured into Greater Cincinnati's two casinos last month, with operators “winning” almost $42 million, Indiana officials said Monday.

In the monthly revenue report for its nine riverboat casinos, the Indiana Gaming Commission said Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg posted gross revenue of $29.4 million and Grand Victoria Casi no in Rising Sun “won” $12.5 million. Gross revenue is measured before the casinos' cost of operations, including salaries and taxes.

For the first four months of the year, Argosy has attracted 2.58 million visitors and Grand Victoria 1.08 million.

The new Belterra Resort and Casino is to open in Switzerland County in September, providing competi tion for Argosy and Grand Victoria.

But there has been no slowing in the flow of people into the two riverboats. Argosy's 2.58 million through April is 200,000 more than the similar period last year, it said.

The Lawrenceburg casino said it awarded $38.5 million in combined slot machine and poker jackpots in April.

“When the jackpots are combined with all of Argosy's amenities, it's easy to see why Argosy is consistently one of the Tristate's top attractions,” said Arnold Block, general manager of the Lawrenceburg boat.
