WYOMING A 5-year-old Wyoming girl was bitten Friday by a roving pit bull, police said.
The attack occurred at about 2 p.m. while Rachel McMullen was outside her home on Crosley Street. She suffered bites to her upper left thigh and her right tricep.
She was treated at the scene and again at Children's Hospital, and released.
The dog, a tan pit bull, was seen roving the neighborhood before the attack.
The initial call came from a neighbor of the dog's owner, who said she was almost attacked by the animal as she tried to leave her home Friday afternoon.
She told police she saw the dog heading south on Crosley. A second call reported that the dog had tried to bite children in the area.
Police found the dog at its owner's home on Oak Avenue and cited the owner, Cynthia Hodge, for having a vicious dog, not having insurance and not having an animal license.
The dog is in the custody of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, officials said.
SPCA officials could not be reached for comment Friday to determine what would be done with the dog.
Police said they had no previous encounters with the animal.
In Wyoming, owners of dogs considered to be vicious must have at least $50,000 of liability insurance to cover any injuries in case the animal attacks someone.
