Fairy tale gets contemporary spin
By Owen Findsen
The Cincinnati Enquirer
This is the 28th in the series spotlighting a pig from the Big Pig Gig Public Art Project taking place in Cincinnati, Covington and Newport. Past pig profiles can be found on enquirer.com. Click on the Big Pig Gig icon.
Artist: Jan Marx Knoop, Barnhouse Studio, Pierce Township.
Sponsor: Nancy and Steve Donovan, Josephine Joseph, Chris and Jim Geier.
This pig's pen: Eighth and Walnut Street entry, Main Public Library.
You were inspired by: My (a)muse.
You want people to look at this pig and think: We never realized the three not-so-little pigs are a farmer with extra straw to sell, a pig who cares more about building a strong body than a strong house, and a business woman who is president and owner of the Anti-Wolf Brick Co.
Completing the project took: Seven weeks so far, and still a pig and a half to go.
Swine over matter: High-gloss enamel and acrylic.
Your high on the hog was: Having people who visit my pigsty pat and talk to the porkers.
Pig peeve: Having enough paint left over to open the Half Pint Paint Store.
Best pig tale: While on my back painting a pig underside, I laid my head on a lid full of paint . . . a humbling experience.
My favorite pork dish: On the hoof.
The materials cost: About $250 for supplies. I'm also keeping track of my mileage and time, just to see . . .
Do you consider this art or porkography? Art of course. What is porkography? Sounds like boar-ing geography.
If your pig starred in a movie (or an opera), who would you cast to play the role? They would insist on playing themselves. They are such hams.
