Job fair comes to Lincoln Heights

Hiring quickly is aim

By Sara J. Bennett
The Cincinnati Enquirer

LINCOLN HEIGHTS — Sonny James is so excited about the job fair his organization is holding this weekend that he can barely hold it in.

“Praise God, Hallelujah!” shouted the regional director for SHARE, a program that assists the needy. “There are all kind of job fairs in the city, but how many have you heard of where the employers are there to say, boom! You start working Monday?”

If all goes as planned, today's “Share the Wealth Town Hall and Community Day” will pack Lincoln Heights' Tabernacle Baptist Church with employers looking to hire on the spot.

The idea is to help people now so they won't suffer as much come October when welfare benefits are scheduled to end for about 4,400 families in Hamilton County.

SHARE, which stands for Self Help and Resource Exchange, provides discounted groceries and diapers in exchange for community service.

So far, Mr. James said, at least 16 employers have confirmed plans to be at the fair, including Kroger Co.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. at the church, 9784 North Wayne Ave. Transportation and day care will be provided. Information: 733-4072 or 242-7510.
