Pun pays homage to Japanese warriors
By Owen Findsen
The Cincinnati Enquirer
This is 63rd in a series spotlighting pigs from the Big Pig Gig Public Art Project taking place in Cincinnati, Covington and Newport. Find past pig profiles at cincinnati.com.
Artist: Cole Carothers, 50, Milford. Mr. Carothers is also the creator of Piglit, at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
Sponsor: Klinedinst Family.
This pig's pen: Westin Hotel Atrium.
You were inspired by: With all the pig puns, I wanted to find something with the pun hidden in the middle of a word, so I picked sHOGun.
You want people to look at this pig and think: I'm just pleased that the city is taking to the project and that so many people are coming downtown to look at art.
Completing the project took: The two pigs took the month of May.
Your high on the hog was: That Cincinnati chose to do pigs and not to copy Chicago's cows or do apples or something else that doesn't relate to the city.
Pig peeve: I have the sword back in my studio to repair it. There are a lot of people who think of these pigs as public jungle gyms and somebody pulled it off.
Best pig tale: The hair came from a mop.
My favorite pork dish: Moo shu pork.
What artistic movement most affected the outcome of this pig? Japanese woodcuts.
If your pig starred in a movie, who would you cast to play the role? John Belushi.
