A 4-year-old Middletown boy remained hospitalized Monday after his 8-year-old brother shot him in the face Sunday, police said.
Middletown police on Monday said they were trying to determine whether anyone should be charged in the incident that hurt Brandon Profitt.
The boy remained in Children's Hospital Medical Center but officials wouldn't release information on his condition.
A police report said the boy's brother told them a gun discharged while they were playing with it at their home in the 3100 block of Mohawk Street around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
The children's mother said she thought the injury was caused by a pellet gun, but officers said the weapon was a .25-caliber silver-colored handgun.
The identity of the gun's owner was not immediately clear.
The gun had jammed and had four additional live rounds in its magazine, a report says.
The bullet entered Brandon's cheek and exited behind his left ear.
Police Maj. Mike Bruck said more information on the incident was likely to be available Wednesday.
