Metallica fans expected to jam I-71

The Cincinnati Enquirer

SPARTA — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has issued a traffic advisory for Interstate 71 today in anticipation of the 50,000 fans expected to converge on the Kentucky Speedway for a daylong rock show headlined by Metallica.

State police are advising concert-goers to allow plenty of time to reach the speedway.

Parking lots open at 10 a.m., gates open at 2 p.m., and the concert starts at 4 p.m. Seating is festival style — first come, first served.

Only right-lane traffic near the speedway along I-71 will be allowed to exit at Ky. 35, the road leading to the speedway. Through traffic will be diverted to the left lane only. The Interstate 75 northbound ramp from Lexington to I-71 will be open. Ky. 35 will be converted to five lanes of traffic inbound to the speedway.
