Monroe gets new principal
Amodio comes from Northwest High

MONROE Robert Amodio will leave Northwest High School to become principal of Lemon-Monroe High School.
Mr. Amodio, a Liberty Township father of two, was hired last week by the Monroe Board of Education to oversee both the middle and high school programs, which will be housed in separate areas of the school.
He was given a two-year contract and will earn $72,910 annually.
I want to create a strong administrative team to work with the strong teaching team, said Mr. Amodio, who was Northwest's assistant principal.
I am excited about the genuine opportunity to redesign challenges. And tasks are going to be viewed not only locally and through the state, but nationally. I am very excited and thankful for this chance.
Mr. Amodio was one of 13 applicants and five finalists for the position.
His strong communication skills, energy, problem-solving skills and background with middle and high school students brought high marks from the interview committee, said Dan Hare, Monroe's interim superintendent.
He is looking for innovative ways of doing things, not just traditional, said John Birch, vice president of the Monroe board.
A 1984 graduate of Colerain High School, Mr. Amodio earned a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph College in Indiana and a master's from Northern Kentucky University.
He has taught in the Lakota and Northwest school districts, served as an assistant principal at Finneytown Middle School for four years and has been Northwest High School's assistant principal the past year.
Mr. Amodio will assist in the hiring of two assistant principals for the school, which is expected to house about 900 students in grades 7-12.
Until his Aug. 1 start date, he will work as a consultant to ready the district for the start of school next month.
The board also approved the transfer of contracts for teachers from the Middletown/Monroe Schools to the Monroe Schools as part of the deconsolidation effort.
The staff will keep the same seniority, benefits and pay under an agreement approved by the Monroe and Middletown school boards, the Middletown Teachers Association and the Monroe Educational Association.
The agreement allowed teachers to remain in their current position or transfer from one district to the other.
