Chamber's fund-raiser beats goal

$571,000 will go toward N.Ky. programs, services

FORT MITCHELL — The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce raised more than $500,000 and beat its fund-raising goal for this year.

The chamber's 10-week Taking Care of Business 2000 campaign raised $571,000, well over its goal of $500,000, said Fort Mitchell lawyer Charlie Pangburn, who chaired the campaign.

“We are proud to see the members actively participate in the campaign,” said Chamber president Gary Toebben. “It shows the dedication of our members who want to promote the business and economic environment in Northern Kentucky.”

The chamber, the region's largest business group with more than 1,900 members, will use the money for programs and member services.

The chamber has been particularly active over the last two years in workforce development, helping employers find and train new workers, Mr. Toebben said.

The chamber also sponsors monthly business programs such as the Eggs N' Issues breakfast forums, regular luncheons with members of Congress and other elected officials, and small-business development workshops.

More than 200 teams from chamber member businesses helped raise the money. During the campaign about 150 new members joined the chamber.
