Panel to examine energy outlook

By Mike Boyer

The outlook for the deregulated energy industry will be the theme for the sixth annual Midwest conference of the American Association of Blacks in Energy Wednesday through Friday at the Marriott RiverCenter in Covington.

The national organization has about 1,500 members employed in the utility industry. The 4-year-old Cincinnati AABE chapter is host of the Midwest conference for the first time. Keynote of the conference will be a panel discussion Thursday by four energy company CEOs discussing deregulated energy markets.

Participating will be James E. Rogers, president and CEO of Cinergy Corp.; Daniel Packer, chairman and CEO of Entergy, New Orleans; Paul Chellgren, chairman and CEO of Ashland Inc.; and Barrett Hatches, president and CEO of Enstar.

The local AABE chapter grew out of the Collaborative for Positive Change, an African-American networking organization at Cinergy. The chapter now has 45 members including employees of Columbia Energy and Ashland.
