HAMILTON — A former teacher and coach has been ordered to repay his teaching salary from last year after admitting he did not have a valid teaching certificate.

Butler County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Oney this week ordered Greg Brown to reimburse the Madison Local Schools $16,773.48. That figure included Mr. Brown's salary and benefits the district had paid during his employment as a social studies teacher from Sept. 3 through Jan. 29.

“It was the full amount we asked for,” said Butler County Assistant Prosecutor John M. Holcomb.

Mr. Brown held supplemental contracts with the Middletown/Monroe Board of Education as head coach of Lemon-Monroe High School's girls basketball team; and from the Madison board, where he was Madi son High School's assistant football coach and Madison Junior School's track coach.

Judge Oney's order comes two weeks after Mr. Brown pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of falsification and received a suspend ed six-month jail term. Mr. Brown was ordered to pay a $500 fine and perform 200 hours of community service.

“We're satisfied,” Madison Schools Superintendent William Caudill said Friday.
