Assault on officer, bank robbery among Warren indictments

LEBANON — A Cincinnati man has been indicted on three felony counts of assaulting a police officer after a scuffle with Warren County sheriff's deputies at Fort Ancient park in northern Warren County.
Douglas Byrd, 21, is ac cused of kicking one deputy, cutting another with his fingernails and trying to bite a third on May 15, said Warren County Prosecutor Tim Oliver.
He is out of the Warren County jail after posting 10 percent of a $25,000 bond, Mr. Oliver said.
The assault charges were among the indictments hand ed up Friday by the Warren County grand jury, and released Monday.
The grand jury also indicted Jeremy D. Barker, 25, of the Franklin area, on robbery and theft charges, both felonies, in connection with a July 5 hold-up of the Fifth Third Bank branch in a Middletown Kroger store.
Mr. Barker is accused of presenting a note at the bank demanding money. He got away with about $10,000, most of which was recovered when he was caught several hours later, Mr. Oliver said.
There is no indication a weapon was used in the hold-up.
Mr. Barker was released from prison in April after serving six years for aggra vated robbery in Butler County, Mr. Oliver said.
Also, a Kennedy Heights man was indicted on two felony counts of patient abuse for allegedly striking a patient in the chest at Brookside Extended Care Center in Mason on May 19. The patient was not seriously injured, Mr. Oliver said.
Demetrius Dozier, 24, job title at Brookside could not be immediately determined, but he has been fired, Mr. Oliver said.
He had been working at the facility for several weeks before the incidents, he added.
The alleged abuse is not related to the rape of a Brookside resident this month, Mr. Oliver said.
