Northern Kentucky GOP organizers predict that Texas Gov. George W. Bush will bring his running mate with him when he visits Covington on Saturday for a campaign rally.
The Associated Press reported Monday that Mr. Bush has selected former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney to run for vice president on the Republican ticket.
Mr. Bush will appear at a public rally scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. at the Devou Park overlook in Covington a location that affords a stunning view of the Ohio River, downtown Cincinnati, Newport and Covington.
Bill Cunningham, a WLW-AM talk show host, will serve as master of ceremonies.
Parking could be a problem, since there are just two small public lots near the park's overlook. Other details remain to be worked out.
Mr. Bush will also appear at a private reception with local party officials, area leaders, business people and donors to his cam paign. He will stay overnight in Cincinnati and attend a 2 p.m. rally Sunday at Blue Ash Sports Park on Grooms Road.
Then it's on to Dayton and Columbus on Monday, then West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
He will arrive in Philadelphia Aug. 2, concluding the five-state bus tour at the Republican National Convention, which goes from July 31 through Aug. 4.
