County studies pit expansion
By Cindi Andrews
The Cincinnati Enquirer
LEBANON A plan to expand a gravel pit in northwestern Warren County goes to the county commissioners today after it received mixed reviews from staffers.
Martin Marietta is requesting that 62 acres along Franklin-Trenton Road in Franklin Township be rezoned from heavy industry to mineral extraction.
The company has another gravel pit just east of the new site, said county Planning Director Bob Craig, but the planning board recommended against the rezoning. The board was concerned about the possible effects on a well field, he said.
The county zoning board, on the other hand, recommended approval of the rezoning.
Commissioners now must make the final decision.
The neighborhood is mixed-use, Mr. Craig said, with retail businesses and an older subdivision nearby.
