A pig named Typigraphy is in critical condition in the Pig Hospital after vandals struck over the weekend.

“His head is pretty well cracked up. His hoof is broken. His cape is smashed. There is fundamental damage. We don't know if he'll survive,” said Donna Eby, partner in Sanger and Eby graphic designers, sponsors and creators of the pig.

The damaged pig was found Monday morning on Fourth Street and taken to the Pig Hospital on Seventh Street.

“We were devastated,” Ms. Eby said. “We put police tape around the "swine scene' and marked the outline of the pig with white tape. Then people on Fourth Street started putting flowers there. We are getting "goetta well' cards from other pigs and pig sponsors.”

Typigraphy is a typographic pig, covered with type fonts and wearing a ceramic cape. The staff at Sanger and Eby Design spent more than 400 hours creating their pig for the Big Pig Gig, a public art project that is putting more than 400 artist-designed fiberglass pigs on the streets of Cincinnati, Covington and Newport.

“We are hopeful,” said Ms. Eby. “One of the other sponsors we did a pig for is Children's Hospital, so we're getting expert advice.”

A fund has been set up by Fifth Third Bank for contributions to repair pigs.

A reward of five pounds of goetta is being offered for information about the vandalism.
