Man faces murder charge

Could get death in Flick shooting

By Dan Horn
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A 30-year-old New Baltimore man faces a possible death sentence if convicted of killing his former girlfriend in her Crosby Township home.

Patrick Leonard was indicted Monday by a Hamilton County grand jury on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder, rape and kidnapping in the July 29 shooting death of Dawn Flick.

Mr. Leonard is accused of shooting his way into Ms. Flick's home at 3 a.m. with a .22-caliber rifle, then turning the gun on her. Ms. Flick, the daughter of restaurant owner Les Flick, was later found dead in her home.

Less than 24 hours later, her father committed suicide at the family restaurant, Flick's Home Like Inn in Crosby Township.

“The fact that her grief-stricken father died of a gunshot wound ... compounds this terrible tragedy,” Prosecutor Mike Allen said.

Prosecutors say Ms. Flick called 911 and two friends for help shortly before the shooting.

When the friends arrived, they say, Mr. Leonard fired several shots at them. One friend, 25-year-old Ryan Gries, was struck once in the side. He was treated at a hospital, then released.

Mr. Leonard turned himself in a few hours later at the police station in Highland Heights.

He was returned to Hamilton County last week and will be arraigned in Common Pleas Court within the next week.
