Black Family Reunion events

200,000 people expected on the riverfront for four-day event

  Here is a listing of events for this weekend's 2000 Midwest Regional Black Family Reunion Celebration. It runs through Sunday on Cincinnati's riverfront park area and at various venues around the city. All events are free.


  10 a.m.: Annual Midwest Regional Black Family Reunion Parade, Avondale. Parade begins at Forest Avenue and Reading Road, proceeding left onto Burnet Street, left onto Erckenbrecker Avenue, left to Harvey Avenue and right on Rockdale Avenue.
  1 p.m. and after: Jammin' on the Cove at Yeatman's Cove, Sawyer Point. The jazz fest will include performers all afternoon, including Elliott Slaughter & Ramona, Odeen Mays, Dean Simms & Quiet Fire, and Gerald Albright.
  5 p.m.: An R&B concert sponsored by WIZF at the Procter & Gamble stage, including local groups Bliss and B.C.O., plus national acts Lil Bow-Wow, Profyle, Next, Evelyn Champagne King, The Phat Cat Players and Zapp.


  1 p.m. and after: Jammin' on the Cove at Yeatman's Cove, Sawyer Point. Blues acts will include Big Joe Duskin, Keith Little, H. Bomb Ferguson and Little Milton.
  5 p.m.: Gospelfest, sponsored by Procter & Gamble, showcases acts such as the Arts Consortium of Cincinnati Youth Chorales, Vision Mime Ministry, and vocalists Kim Watts, Kay Barksdale and Rae Swanson.
