New sports station debuts Aug. 28
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The big change comes Monday, Aug.28. On that day, HOMER (WCKY-AM 1360) becomes 1360 HOMER The Sports Animal with a revamped lineup and a new network affiliation.
The Two Angry Guys (Tom Gamble and Richard Skinner) and Lance McAlister will jump from WBOB-AM (1160) to HOMER.
The new lineup will be: the Two Angry Guys from 6-9a.m.; Wild Man Walker from 9a.m to noon; Jim Rome from noon to 3p.m.; and McAlister from 3-6p.m.
Marc Amazon, who had filled the 3-6p.m. slot, is out. Amazon said he's going to pursue other business opportunities and may get into broadcasting somewhere else.
Also on Aug.28, HOMER will switch network affiliations from ESPN to Fox Sports Radio. The station will add local updates at 15 and 45 minutes after the hour.
We're bringing in some pretty good talent, said Daryl Parks, chief of AM operations for Clear Channel here. That, along with adding the Bengals, should bolster our ratings.
The change is the result of the deal in which AMFM, the owner of BOB, was bought by Clear Channel, the owner of HOMER.
Sources say BOB will make a go of it as an all-sports station for the time being. The station will run mostly ESPN programming.
HOMER will run Fox Sports programming from 6-10p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends. From 10p.m. to 1a.m, it will air the Phil Hendrie Show.
It's guy talk, Parks said.
HOMER will continue to air its Monday Night Football package, baseball playoffs, NASCAR and NCAA basketball. The station also will air Miami University football and basketball.
