CSO manager going to Canada
Jeff Alexander, general manager of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for the last 12 years, is leaving to become president and general manager of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in Vancouver, B.C. The Vancouver Symphony announced the appointment Tuesday. He will assume the post Oct. 16.
The CSO will begin a search immediately for Mr. Alexander's successor, said Steven Monder, CSO president.
Founded in 1919, the Vancouver Symphony is the third-largest in Canada, with 74 musicians, a $10 million budget and 130 concerts annually.
Crown Vantage to close a plant
Crown Vantage Inc., the struggling printing and packaging paper maker that moved its headquarters to Blue Ash earlier this year, said Tuesday it will close its Parchment, Mich., plant, terminating 249 employees to cut costs while reorganizing.
The company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in March, said the Parchment plant, which makes food and retail packaging paper, will close by Nov. 3. Employees at the Parchment mill voted to strike after their labor contract expired July 23, though they have continued to work.
Lattice triples tower network
Lattice Communications LLC, a Cincinnati wireless tower operator, has tripled the size of its network with the acquisition of 194 towers in 15 states from Broadwing Communications Services, a unit of Broadwing Inc.
The acquisition gives Lattice, a joint venture of Cinergy Corp. and billionaire Robert M. Bass, 291 wireless towers stretching from San Francisco to Philadelphia.
