Promotions & new on the job

        • Ty Nelson has joined KnowToday Inc., developer and marketer of information commerce technology, as business development manager, Cincinnati. Mr. Nelson will focus on creating business partnership strategies and programs with customers in the corporate market. He spent eight years in management consulting at Deloitte Consulting.

        • Dr. Paul J. Favorito, an orthopaedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, has joined Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine. Dr. Favorito will see patients at Wellington's offices in Anderson Township, Blue Ash, Eastgate and Mount Auburn. In addition, he will lend his sports medicine expertise to area high school, collegiate and professional athletes.

        • J.C. Morgan has joined Kenton County Public Library as manager of the Independence branch; and Mindy Carrico has joined the library as the children's librarian.

        • Dr. Charles Kuntz IV has joined the Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute in Cincinnati as a neurological surgeon, specializing in spine and peripheral nerve surgery. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kuntz is assistant professor of neurosurgery, associate director of spine and peripheral nerve surgery, and director of spine and peripheral nerve research in the department of neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

        • Sandy Skupinski has been named marketing director at Arden Courts, a new Alzheimer's assisted living facility. Ms. Skupinski will be responsible for developing relationships with families who need information regarding residential Alzheimer's services, or about Alz heimer's disease in general. She was with the Drake Center, where she worked in marketing and public relations.

        • Appointed to the board of trustees at Clovernook Center for the Blind: Dr. Thomas G. Burch, Thomas L. Conlan Jr., Deborah DeLong, Cortland Meader and Susan M. Winkler. Appointed board officers: Leon H. Loewenstine, chairman; J. Douglas Armstrong, vice chairman; Pamela Moore, treasurer; and Deborah DeLong, secretary.

        • Walter Beringer has been named general manager, operations, of the Coshocton Works for AK Steel; Ron Kinnett, director of research; and Kirk Reich, general manager, operations, Mansfield Works.

        • Steve Hube, partner at Barnes, Dennig & Co., has been named chairman of the Ohio Society of CPAs Peer Review Acceptance Committee. Mr. Hube will lead this group that oversees the process by which accounting firms are monitored within the industry. He has 20 years of experience in providing accounting, tax and consulting services for closely held businesses.

        • Liz Kiggen has joined Upright Communications, an Internet strategy, marketing and design firm in Hyde Park, as director of search engine marketing, and Beth Kaiser joined the firm as a partner responsible for interactive design.

        • Richard Bitting joined Alley Shop Inc., an exhibit and display company, as account executive for NIMLOK, a portable and modular display manufacturer. Mr. Bitting came to the Alley Shop from a graphic imaging business. He previously was art gallery manager for Closson's and Cincinnati Art Galleries. He will be responsible for maintaining and building sales and brand awareness.

        • Brian Leonard has joined the Staubach Co. as sales associate for the corporate services division, Mideast region. Mr. Leonard is responsible for the development and maintenance of corporate clients in the areas of industrial and office real estate.

        • Lisa May Evans, Neal A. May and Bryce A. Lenox have joined Thompson Hine & Flory LLP, as associates in the Cincinnati office.

        • Maryanne Luning and Tanya Pfhal have been appointed director of community relations at Sunrise Assisted Living at Kenwood.

        • Jerry L. Gore has been appointed vice president of retail banking at Towne Bank. Mr. Gore will be responsible for Towne's branch network and business development activities in Hamilton, Butler, Warren, and Montgomery counties. He will manage consumer lending and credit card programs. He has 20 years of banking experience.

        • Dean Varner recently returned to Deskey Associates Inc. as an archiving specialist; Angela Dullaghan has joined the company as account coordinator; and Jeff Egbert as senior production artist.

        • Bob Rack has been appointed president and chief operating officer at Schaeffer's Investment Research. Mr. Rack has been with the firm for seven years, and has been chief operating officer and senior vice president of research since 1999. He will be responsible for the creation and development of new business and products while overseeing the day-to-day operations. In addition, he provides the strategic direction for the firm's Web site,, and investment publishing activities.

        • Ron Kuhlman has joined Employers Resource Association as manager of training and development. Mr. Kuhlman will be responsible for delivering many of the core programs, both public and in-house. He has over five years experience as a training entrepreneur.

        • Erik Booze has joined the Benchmark Group as account coordinator; Dan Croft as account executive; Joe Kling, graphics specialist; Kathyrn Majdanik, administrative assistant; and Heather Harding has been named account coordinator.

        • Dennis Roebel has been named senior trust officer, mutual funds manager; Anglia Davis, trust officer, technology specialist; and Sarah Dukes and Angie Lewis, trust officers, institutional custody representatives.

        • Philip S. Present II has been appointed president of MedPlus Inc. Mr. Present joined the company in 1995 as vice president of corporate development and was named chief operating officer of the company in 1996. He will continue to act as the chief operating officer of the company.

               • The Clarion Hotel Riverview received a Platinum Hospitality Award from Choice Hotels International, franchiser of the Clarion Hotel chain.

        • Boyd L. Clarke, chief executive officer of Tom Peters Co., a global training and consulting organization headquartered in Loveland, has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University.

        • has been named a national finalist for the 2000 Silver Microphone Award for the radio station Web site the company created for WMKV (89.3 FM). The station is on the campus of Maple Knoll Village retirement community in Springdale.

               • Steve's Heating and Cooling celebrated its 25th anniversary and broke ground for a new facility in Florence. It will be moving in the fall. The building will include a state-of-the-art heating and air conditioning showroom.
