La Salle High observes 40 years
GREEN TWP. LaSalle, an all male, Catholic, college preparatory high school at 3091 North Bend Road, celebrates the opening of the 2000-01 school year with the Mass of the Holy Spirit, at 9:30 a.m. today in the gym. This year marks the school's 40th anniversary.
LaSalle opened on Sept. 6, 1960, to 260 freshman from northwest Cincinnati and now has an enrollment of 900 students.
Several priests from LaSalle's feeder parishes will concelebrate the Mass with the Rev. Paul Gebhardt. Principal Tom Luebbe, Class of 1973, and alumnus Don Ruberg, Class of 1972, will address students. A time capsule to preserve memorabilia from the past 40 years as well as this anniversary year will be blessed.
Supervisor workshop
Thomas Richey, superintendent of Winton Woods schools and a trained Covey presenter, conducted the Administrative/Supervisory Workshop Aug. 1-3 at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development.
He said educators must move to results-driven leadership.
Community coffee
MADEIRA Michele Hummel, superintendent of Madeira schools, will hold a community coffee from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 11 at the home of Bob and Holly Reckman, 6203 Caribou Court.
All community members interested in hearing about Madeira public schools are welcome to attend. Information: 985-6070.
Education seminar
The Union Institute, 440 E. McMillan St. in Walnut Hills, will offer a seminar, Women of Color in Higher Education, on Sept. 16, 10 a.m. to noon.
Jean Pryce, educator, will be the moderator. Discussions will focus on women of color who have made major contributions in higher education.

Teacher honored
MOUNT HEALTHY Mount Healthy schools selected Mary Jo Bunny Doebling as the 1999-2000 Teacher of the Year.
The honor came with a plaque and $1,000 cash. Mrs. Doebling, who teaches grades nine through 12, was twice named Ohio's best math teacher and received the 1999 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in May.
