UK president search panel finishes tour
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON A search committee has wrapped up its town meetings to gather public suggestions on qualities the University of Kentucky should look for in its next president.
Now the 12-member committee will begin crafting a final qualification list to judge candidates against.
The committee is charged with screening candidates and making a recommendation to the full board of trustees.
The committee completed a nine-city statewide tour with a town meeting Wednesday night in Lexington that attracted about 50 people. Forum participants included Lexington-area business leaders, students and others from surrounding counties.
Lexington resident Martin Jones said the university should hire a young visionary who will be able to commit many years to UK.
The board of trustees has said it would like to hire a president by March. UK President Charles Wethington will step down next July.
