Local man jumps to death

CLEVELAND — A 24-year-old Cincinnati man jumped from the Veterans Memorial Bridge and died Monday, just as the Cleveland Indians' baseball game was starting at Jacobs Field at the bridge's eastern end.

The man fell about 1 p.m. in an industrial section lightly used during the Labor Day holiday.

Police said an officer tried to talk the man to safety, but he quickly jumped. The man's name was being withheld as police tried to reach his family.
