Three finalists selected for superintendent's post

By Jennifer Mrozowski
The Cincinnati Enquirer

MORROW — The Little Miami School Board has selected three finalists for the district's superintendent slot.

        They are:

        • Dr. Susan Cobb, superintendent of Talawanda City Schools for two years. She previously served as an assistant superintendent of the 10,700-pupil Fox School District in Ar nold, Mo.

        • Jan Kesselring, school support-team facilitator of Hamilton County Educational Service Center and a Little Miami High School graduate.

        • Ralph Shell, interim superintendent of Little Miami School District. He served as superintendent of the Preble County Educational Service Center and Goshen Local Schools in Clermont County, as well as business manager for the Ohio Valley Local Schools in Adams County and an area coordinator for the Ohio Department of Education.

Mr. Shell replaced Michael C. Virelli, who retired July 31 as superintendent to become director of support services for the Warren County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

The Ohio School Boards Association received about 40 inquiries for the Little Miami superintendent position. Of those, 28 people sent applications and resumes, said Little Miami Board President Michael Cremeans.

OSBA narrowed those to six and the local school board selected the final three, Mr. Cremeans said.

Second interviews for the three candidates will be on Tuesday, he said.

The board hopes to name the superintendent by its board meeting Sept. 19.

The board, he said, hopes the superintendent will be someone who can communicate well with administrators, staff, the community and the board.

The new superintendent will have to sell voters on the board's desire to pass an income tax of 0.75 percent, instead of a property tax this November.
