MONROE — Reflecting this city's growth, the fifth annual City Fest will be larger and feature new games, more booths and several different foods, organizers say.

IF YOU GO
  • What: City Fest
  • When: Today, 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, noon to midnight; Sunday, 12-5 p.m.
  • Where: Monroe Community Park on Main Street
  • Attractions: FRIDAY: TZ-5, a 1950s/'60s band, performs at 8 p.m. SATURDAY: Parade at 10 a.m., country music singer Shane Minor performs at 8 p.m., fireworks display at 10:30 p.m.

City Fest, held in Monroe Community Park on Main Street, begins today and runs through Sunday. Highlights include a classic car cruise-in, a parade, fireworks and concerts throughout the weekend.

Food, games and crafts will be sold from the 65 booths, about 15 more than last year, said Cindi Gillen, a City Fest organizer. New food offerings include barbecued chicken and ribs, grilled corn and a baked-potato buffet.

Among the new games will be bingo and jumbo poker.

Most of the food booths will be operated by groups, clubs and schools as fund-raisers, Mrs. Gillen said.

A Butler County sheriff's helicopter will be on display today, and a Miami Valley Hospital medical helicopter will be exhibited Saturday. Military equipment will be featured in Saturday's parade and be on display all weekend. There will also be various demonstrations from city and county agencies.
