SHARONVILLE SharonFest, the city's annual summer fling, will expand this year and feature two areas one appealing to children and teens, the other designed to lure adults.
The event, formerly the Taste Of Sharonville, will be Friday and Saturday downtown along Reading Road.
The popular lip-sync contest ""Puttin' on the Hits'' will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, with cash prizes to the top three contestants. Entry forms should be delivered to the Sharonville Community Center by Wednesday.
SharonFest this year consists of two large areas, spokeswoman Kimberlee Flamm said. The kids and teens area is located in the downtown area better known as Depot Square (west of Reading Road). Free rides include a giant air slide, obstacle course, balloon typhoon, a trackless kiddie train and others. Disc jockey Mr. Ed will be on hand throughout the event to play ... kid and teen music.
The children's area also features games, food, puppet shows and strolling entertainers. Buster of the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks will be on hand Saturday to play hockey with children and present game tickets to winners.
The east side of Reading Road will appeal to adults with food and crafts booths and live entertainment, including country sounds of Johnny Wolfe and White Lightning, Rich Uncle Skeleton's dance band, country and pop vocalist Chelsea Foster and Cajun rhythms of Robin Lacey & DeZydeco.
SharonFest will run from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday. The city's health, recreation and public works departments and the Sharonville Convention Center coordinate the event.
