St. Mark hires alum as principal
H. Michael Murdock has come out of retirement to be principal of St. Mark School, 1712 Duck Creek Road in Evanston.
Mr. Murdock returns to his alma mater following his retirement from Cincinnati Public Schools. He spent 30 years with the system, most recently as assistant principal at Aiken High School in College Hill. Before that he was principal at Taft High School in the West End.
The Cincinnati native attended St. Mark from kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Withrow High School. He has a bachelor's in special education and a master's in educational administration from U.C.
Mentors gather
MOUNT HEALTHY Mount Healthy schools will hold an open house at four elementaries for an overview of the HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) mentoring program.
Open house at all schools will be Monday through Thursday:
2-30-4:30 p.m. at Frost Elementary, 2065 Mistyhill Drive.
8:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Greener Elementary, 2400 Adams Road; Jane Hoop Elementary, 1738 Compton Road; and Rex Ralph Elementary, 1310 Adams Road.
Union Institute seminar
The Union Institute, 440 E. McMillan St. in Walnut Hills, will offer a seminar, Women of Color in Higher Education, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Summer school results
DEER PARK Forty-six students attended elementary summer school in the Deer Park district, receiving 60 hours of instruction over three weeks.
Sixteen students participated in the Virtual Middle School geared toward helping sixth- and seventh-graders from Deer Park, St. Saviour and St. John in the areas of language arts, math, science and citizenship. Students used laptop computers to communicate.
The other 30 students attended classes at Amity and focused on reading. Younger students were assigned to read a book from school to an adult at home in the evenings and students and parents were encouraged to participate in the OhioReads Community Reading program.
