Teen gets 7 years in foiled robbery

LEBANON — Noting Mike Jenkins' history of scrapes with the law, a Warren County judge sentenced the 17-year-old Dayton, Ohio, teen Monday to seven years in prison for the attempted robbery that left him wounded.

“You were only out (of detention) for four months before the aggravated robbery,” Judge P. Daniel Fedders admonished Mr. Jenkins during a sentencing hearing in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

“That shows me you are not learning anything from your exposure to the criminal justice system.” Since 1998, Mr. Jenkins has been charged in Montgomery County with domestic violence, carrying a concealed weapon, attempted grand auto theft, and fleeing and eluding police. He was released after six months in a juvenile detention facility, Judge Fedders said.

Mr. Jenkins was arrested May 25 at a Dayton hospital after he and his 19-year-old cousin, Joshua Leggett, tried to rob the Springboro BP station at 940 W. Central Avenue at gunpoint on May 24.

Station clerk Steve Holland foiled the robbery when he pulled a handgun and fired at Mr. Jenkins, who was armed.
