Results of our news poll

We got 42 responses to Sunday's question:

In the face of rising fuel prices, President Clinton ordered the release of 30 million barrels of oil from the nation's emergency stockpile Friday — the first time the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has been tapped other than during a war. What do you think of the decision?

        • 7% A. It was a wise move that will help the nation avoid a home heating crisis this winter.

        • 57% B. It was merely a political ploy to boost the chances of Vice President Al Gore in the November presidential election and will not help U.S. consumers.

        • 24% C. It may have been politically motivated, but that's OK as long as it lowers the price of fuel.

        • 12% D. The price of oil may drop in the short run, but government tinkering with supply and demand is unwise.
