NewCath win now official

It took until Monday, but Newport Central Catholic officially notched its 14-7 football win over Harrodsburg.
The game ended Saturday with 7:32 left in the third quarter after several delays because of lightning and poor field conditions at Newport Stadium. Louis Stout, Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner, declared NewCath (3-2) the winner.
Junior Steve Eviston led NewCath with 112 yards rushing and a touchdown, and junior quarterback Jeff Smith was 8-of-11 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown to senior Andy Brennenstuhl.
NewCath opens Class A district play Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday against Ludlow at Newport.
