Patton visits today

He'll tour schools, attend fund-raiser

By Patrick Crowley
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FORT MITCHELL — Gov. Paul Patton will spend most of today in Northern Kentucky touring school health centers and making an announcement related to women's issues.

Mr. Patton also will join executives of Covington-based Ashland Inc. in making a contribution to independent colleges and universities.

And he will attend a political fund-raiser this evening at the home of one of his longtime campaign supporters, Fort Thomas businessman Wayne Carlisle.

While in Northern Kentucky, Mr. Patton will tour health centers at two Newport schools — Newport Middle School and Fourth Street Elementary School.

He also will tour a health center at Williamstown Elementary School in Grant County.

The health centers opened this year. Nurses on staff treat students for minor as well as chronic illnesses. The centers also provide prescriptions, counseling, immunizations and other preventive services — all at no cost to parents.

The Newport Middle School facility includes an on-site lab, two exam rooms and a counseling office. Funding came from foundation and corporate grants. The schools renovated buildings to make room for the clinics.

Mr. Patton's Frankfort press office released a brief announcement Tuesday saying Mr. Patton will hold a press conference in Covington today at the Marriott Hotel.

According to the statement, the announcement is related to “women's issues,” but no other information was provided or available.
