CCD 19, Summit CD 0
Summit proves to be right tonic for CCD

Cincinnati Country Day's mastery over Summit Country Day in football continued Thursday at Summit.
Controlling the ball nearly 34 minutes and amassing 376 yards, CCD upset the previously undefeated Silver Knights 19-0. It was the Indians' 15th victory in the last 16 meetings with Summit.
We played angry tonight, CCD coach Tim Dunn said. We feel we're a much better team. If we hold onto the ball, we can play with anybody. If we don't, anybody can play with us.
The Indians brought a 1-4 record into the game.
In the four losses, the Indians turned over the ball 21 times, averaged 370 yards on offense and allowed only 160 yards a game.
Senior quarterback Brett Smith triggered the offense. He rushed for 123 yards and completed five of nine passes for 42 yards. Sophomore tailback Matt Marshall picked up 129 yards on 29 carries.
The game plan was to go off tackle, because that's where they were weak, Smith said. It's been a frustrating season because we've shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers.
It appeared CCD was in for another subpar game when Smith threw an interception and fullback Matt Cohen fumbled in the first half. Both turnovers came inside the Silver Knights 20.
But the Indians continued to dominate and got on the scoreboard 2:08 before halftime when Smith threw a 9-yard pass to Alex Vollmer for a 6-0 lead.
CCD racked up 240 yards in the first half and held Summit to 48.
Although Summit was held to three first downs and 104 yards, the Silver Knights had an opportunity to take the lead in the third quarter, driving to the CCD 32.
Two outstanding defensive plays by Cohen stopped the drive.
On the next play, Smith took the snap from center, stepped back 2 yards, then quickly broke up the middle for a 52-yard run to the Silver Knights 16.
Three plays later, Cohen scored for a 12-0 lead with 4:21 remaining. Summit never recovered.
Our defense was outstanding, said Smith. Matt (Marshall) is only a sophomore, and he did a great job running the ball for the offense.
Despite the loss, Summit remains in contention for a Division VI playoff spot. CCD must win out to get back into the race.
We've lost more regular-season games in the last five weeks than we've lost in the last five years, Dunn said. Maybe the victory will turn the season around for us.
