Strange finish to West-Fairfield game i
A shot by Lakota West's Kim Comisar, taken as a free kick from 30 yards, went into the net for what appeared to be the winning goal, but the referee ruled the ball was still in flight at the buzzer, enabling Fairfield to hold onto a 1-1 tie.
Lakota West retained its half-game lead over Fairfield in the Greater Miami Conference.
Although the ball was shot before the buzzerthe ball must be in the net before time runs out to count.
VOLLEYBALL: McAuley took a major step toward winning the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Scarlet Division title with a 15-6, 15-4 victory over St. Ursula.
Junior Kristen Rust had four kills and five blocks, and setter Molly Middendorf contributed 16 assists.
BOYS GOLF: Kings finished the season unbeaten in match play with a tri-match victory over CHCA and Mason. The Knights shot 157, four better than second place CHCA.
Last year we went 13-0 and lost the final match of the season, coach Bill Frambes said. This year we have already accomplished two of our goals by finishing in the top 10 (No.5) in the city and winning the league title.
GIRLS TENNIS: Lauren Piers, Katie Herre and Kelly Liggett each won singles titles to lead Kings to the championship in the FAVC-Cardinal Tournament. Kings went undefeated in the league in the regular season.
BOYS SOCCER: Although the game ended in a 2-2 tie, it was a moral victory for the unranked Middletown Middies against Lakota East, No.1 in the Enquirer's weekly poll. A goal off a direct kick by Lakota East's David Brown with seven seconds remaining secured the tie.
