Book drive helps reading at Chase

As part of “Make a Difference Day 2000” The North Side Bank & Trust, 4125 Hamilton Ave., is sponsoring a book drive to benefit students at Chase Elementary School, 4151 Turrill St.

Chase Elementary School has a new core curriculum called “America's Choice” to ensure that students reach an international standard of achievement in English, math and science.

Chase established a “10,000 Books Campaign” to provide 500-book libraries in each room so students can choose books based on individual ability.

Books can be dropped off through Friday at Chase Elementary, The North Side Bank, Northside Post Office, Crazy Ladies Bookstore, Save-a-Lot, Northside, McKie Center, Taylor Jameson's Hair Design, IGA, Mount Airy, Boswell Alley and Kroger in Mount Airy.

Grandparents invited

HAMILTON — Grandparents of students attending Hamilton High School are invited to eat breakfast with their grandchildren at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The Booster Club is sponsoring the get-together. Tickets are $2.50 and can be purchased at school or by calling 868-7700. Today is the deadline to purchase tickets.

Rhapsody in Blue, the school's show choir, will perform during the breakfast. The 2000 Homecoming Court also will be introduced. A queen will be named during the Oct. 13 Homecoming football game against the Middletown Middies.

Open house Oct. 12

MARIEMONT — Families, teachers and community leaders are invited to a three-hour open house at Mariemont Elementary School to talk about the importance of quality after-school programs for children.

Sponsored by the Mariemont Extended Time Program, the event is 3:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Discussion will center on how community organizations and the public can work together.
