Burned puppy adopted by firefighters gets name: Phoenix
The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON The Hamilton Fire Department on Wednesday announced the three winners of the contest to name an abused puppy that firefighters have adopted.
Phoenix is the Labrador retriever's new name.
The winners are: Allison Baker of Heritage Elementary School in West Chester, Jonathon Austin Harris of Janet Clemmons Center in Hamilton, and Sean O'Donnel of Lincoln Elementary in Hamilton.
The winners will be invited to ride along with Phoenix in Mon day's Butler County Fire Prevention Parade in Hamilton.
The winners also will be the guests of honor during a lunch at the fire department's headquarters, receive T-shirts from Councilman Dick Holzberger, gift packages from McDonald's of Hamilton and Fairfield and gift certificates from the Sports Zone Family Fun Center in Hamilton.
The dog has been designated the department's mascot a first. Two women brought the dog to the fire station Aug. 26, saying it had been burned with hot water and set on fire by neighborhood kids.
