Businesses evacuate after chemical leak
WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP A chemical mixing vat of adhesives leaked fumes Tuesday morning, making four employees of a West Chester Township company ill and forcing the evacuation of a half-dozen other nearby businesses.
The spill occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at the Three Bond International Co., 6184 Schumacher Park Drive, south of the Union Centre Boulevard and Interstate 75 interchange in Butler County.
The four workers, who suffered minor throat irritation and dizziness, were treated and later released from Bethesda North Hospital. As a precaution more than 60 Three Bond employees were evacuated, as were hundreds of other workers from companies along Schumacher Park Drive and a portion of Crescent Park in the Schumacher Commerce Park.
The West Chester Hazardous Materials Unit was investigating the leak, but company officials said preliminary indications point to a defective batch of adhesive chemicals as cause of the fumes.
