Boy admitted to hospital after fight

Two students a sophomore and a junior with bleeding head wounds were taken to hospitals Friday morning after they fought at Princeton High School, officials said.
Shelley Hamler, assistant superintendent of administration, said one was struck on the back of the head with a board and the other was thrown against a brick wall.
The boy struck with the board was treated for a minor injury at Bethesda North and released, a hospital spokesman said.
The one who went face first into the wall was taken to Mercy Fairfield, Police Lt. Joe Witzman said.
Later, Ms. Hamler said that youth was admitted to the hospital.
Lt. Witzman said initial reports suggest the boy who had a foot-long board struck the first blow.
His victim chased and caught his attacker before ramming him face first into the bricks, officials said.
Self-defense was no excuse, Ms. Hamler said, and both fighters face suspension and/or expulsion.
Neither will be allowed back in class until that is resolved, she said.
She said a decision could be made Monday if the school investigation is completed by then.
Lt. Witzman said Detective Rich Usher is handling the criminal probe and it was not clear whether charges would be filed.
Typically, officers leave it to parents to bring charges, the lieutenant said; but if parents refuse and the crime warrants, police will file the complaint.
At this point, we're treating this as two assaults, Lt. Witzman said, adding that an unidentified teacher who broke up the fight had given a written statement.
Ms. Hamler said one youth's family was notified. When the other family could not be reached, an administrator accompanied the second youth to the hospital.
