Driver gets probation for causing man's death
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS A driver who punched a pedestrian who complained about his loud music causing him to fall, hit his head and die has received a suspended four-year prison sentence.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge John Connor said Thursday he did not believe Samuel Bagley, 23, intended to kill William Volk, 64, of Columbus.
Judge Connor did order Mr. Bagley to spend six months in the county jail work-release program. And he told him to undergo anger management counseling.
Mr. Bagley pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Aug.15.
Mr. Volk reportedly yelled at Mr. Bagley about the music from his sport utility vehicle and may have tapped the back of it with his cane.
Mr. Bagley got out, began to argue and punched Mr. Volk in the face, causing Mr. Volk to hit his head on the pavement, witnesses said. He died the next day.
