Apples and pumpkins are the traditional autumn harvests, but at some farms an equally important crop is visitors. Here are several that go all out at this time of year to offer city dwellers a taste of the country.
In St. Leon, Ind. (Dearborn County), Lobenstein Farm holds its Pumpkin Festival the first three weekends of this month. Visitors can select pumpkins from the field, take a wagon ride, pet farm animals and purchase handcrafts. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday beginning this weekend. Call (812) 576-3177.

A straw maze is the special attraction at Barn 'n' Bunk Farm Market, which opens for Fall Festival Weekends throughout October. Children's activities include wax hands and face painting, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, grist mill and crafts for sale.
Barn 'n' Bunk hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 Sunday. The farm is at 3677 Wayne-Madison Road in Trenton. Call (513) 988-9211.
Irons Fruit Farm near Lebanon is open daily through October. Visitors can pick apples, choose a pumpkin and purchase treats in the gift shop. On weekends there is entertainment as well as pumpkin hayrides and a chance to get lost in a 9-acre corn maze. Today and Sunday the farm presents after noon puppet shows.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 6 Sunday. The farm is at 1640 Stubbs Mill Road, off Ohio 123 east of Lebanon. Call 932-2853.
Hidden Valley Fruit Farm serves up large quantities of apples, pumpkins, squash, Indian corn, gourds and dried flowers for autumn produce-seekers. Its farm market is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 to 7 Sunday. Weekends bring trips to the haunted barn and through a corn stalk maze. Hayrides during daylight hours give way to Spooky Valley hayrides after dark. The last weekend in October, Hidden Valley holds a special Halloween celebration.
Activities take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Spooky Valley hayrides run from dark to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Hidden Valley is six miles north of Lebanon on Ohio 48. Call (513) 932-1869.
Stop by The Black Barn daily for fall produce and plants, but come back on weekends for hayrides and trips to the pumpkin patch.
The farm will also arrange special tours for groups during the week. Fall activities continue through October.
The Black Barn is on Ohio 63 just west of Lebanon. Call 932-2093.
