Mason pitcher will sign with Michigan

Tie moves CCD closer to MVC soccer crown

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Paul Hammond, a left-handed pitcher from Mason High School, has verbally committed to the University of Michigan.

As a junior, Hammond compiled a 7-0 record with a 0.31 ERA. He struck out 102 batters in 54 innings. He is 20-1 in his career. Hammond hit for a .330 average.

FOOTBALL: Upper Arlington moved up to replace Moeller as No.2 in the Associated Press Ohio football poll. Moeller, which lost 21-7 to Elder last week, dropped to ninth. Elder moved into the poll at No.10. Colerain is No.8.

BOYS SOCCER: Cincinnati Country Day tied Seven Hills 2-2, moving the Indians a step closer to clinching the Miami Valley Conference title.

Trailing 2-0 early in the first half, Carson Morey scored on a penalty kick and Matt Miller tied it 39 seconds before halftime with an unassisted goal.

The Indians are now 6-0-2 in the MVC with games remaining against CHCA and North College Hill. Elsewhere:

Anderson and Turpin will share the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division title as a result of Tuesday's scoreless tie.

Anderson sophomore goalie Brandon Bernhardt saved 23 shots while the Turpin defense didn't allow Anderson a shot on goal.

        • Ross clinched the Fort Ancient Valley Cardinal Division championship with a 9-0 victory over Norwood.

Tiago Carloni and Anthony Hinson scored two goals each for the Rams (14-0-1).

The nine-goal outburst gave the Rams 76 for the season, breaking the single-season school set five years ago.

        • Indian Hill and Madeira finished in a tie for the championship of the Cincinnati Hills League.

VOLLEYBALL: A 15-5, 15-6 victory over West Carrollton gave Talawanda its first Mid-Miami League title under second-year coach Bill Zehler.
