Prevention: Worried about colon cancer? M. Sara Rosenthal answers many of your questions in 50 Ways to Prevent Colon Cancer (Lowell House, $14.95). Talk it out: Americans are far less likely to talk with their terminally ill parents about end-of-life care options than to talk with their children about safe sex and drugs, according to the National Hospice Foundation.
The Hospice Foundation is offering three free brochures, Communicating Your End-of-Life Wishes, Hospice Care: A Consumer's Guide to Selecting a Hospice Program and Hospice Care and the Medicare Hospice Benefit. Free screenings: Shriners Burns Hospital for Children is holding a free health screening for children under 18 from 11 to 3 Saturdayat the hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave. in Avondale. End of life: Cancer Family Care is holding a free four-part seminar on end-of-life issues Tuesdays Oct. 17-Nov. 7. The Full Circle seminar will cover cultural views of illness and death; medical, legal and financial choices; family changes; communications tools and finding support. Women's health: Researchers from the University of Cincinnati will discuss their work and its contributions to understanding women's cancers from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies at the UC Medical Center. Seminar: Energy healer Donna Eden, author of Energy Medicine, will present a day-long seminar, Energy Medicine: Stress Management for Body, Mind and Spirit, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at the New Life Outreach Church, 1391 Crescentville Road near Tri-County Mall. Ms. Eden will also present an introduction to energy medicine at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the church. Cost for the day-long seminar is $85 with advance registration. The Oct. 20 event is $10 at the door.
