Firm will restore Russian fighter planes
The Associated Press
OWENSBORO, Ky. The owners of a new company that restores aircraft at Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport have submitted bids to paint several former Russian fighter planes.
Russian attack jets have become the rich man's sports car of the air, said Jeff Grammer, who owns Tri-State Air Care with his wife, Heather Roberts Grammer. We're talking to owners in Florida, Atlanta and Chicago. People are willing to fly to have their work done at a quality shop.
Before deciding to start Tri-State, Mr. Grammer was a mechanic for MidAmerica Jet Inc., which is an aircraft company in Owensboro.
Mike Day, president of MidAmerica, says Tri-State will fit perfectly with his company.
We've discussed joint marketing because we want to turn Owensboro into a maintenance hub for general aviation aircraft, Mr. Day said.
Mr. Grammer's company, which will be fully operational in one month, will be painting everything from two-passenger aircraft to large turbo-prop models with wingspans up to 70 feet.
