Teen admits to gun incident
By Dan Horn
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A 14-year-old junior high student admitted in Hamilton County Juvenile Court on Thursday that he fired a gunshot into the ceiling of his Mount Healthy school.
The teen, who is not being named because he is a juvenile, pleaded guilty to charges of abduction, theft, inducing panic, carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm in a school.
He will return to Juvenile Court this month for sentencing before Judge Sylvia Hendon.
The boy faces as little as six months in a juvenile detention center, but he also could be jailed until he is 21.
Police say the incident occurred Sept. 18, when the teen pulled out a .380-caliber handgun and fired a shot into the ceiling of his eighth-grade classroom at Mount Healthy North Middle School.
He pointed the gun at a teacher and ordered the 15 other students in the class out of the room. He then asked to speak to a police officer who worked part time at the school.
Police described the boy as distraught and said he apparently did not intend to hurt anyone. The teen surrendered after talking to the officer for about 25 minutes.
