Pikeville politicians lead money race
The Associated Press
FRANKFORT The state Senate race in Pike and Letcher counties is setting records.
Democrat Ray Jones, a Pikeville attorney, raised $175,075 between July 22 and Oct. 6, according to a report filed Thursday with the state.
Republican Chris Ratliff reported raising $151,874. Mr. Ratliff's money includes $50,000 from the state GOP and $20,000 he loaned the campaign.
Mr. Ratliff, a state representative from Pikeville, had $144,667 on hand as of Oct. 6, compared with $106,188 for Mr. Jones.
It is the state's most expensive legislative race this election.
Road construction and coal interests back Mr. Jones. Both have been supporters of Gov. Paul Patton, a Democrat from Pike County.
