Talawanda volleyball takes flight under Zehler
By Dave Schutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Bill Zehler, after years of officiating collegiate and high school volleyball matches, decided to accept the challenge of coaching at Talawanda.
After taking over a program last year that usually posted losing records, Zehler has the Braves on the right track.
Last week, the Braves completed Mid Miami League play with a 14-0 record while going 16-2 overall.
We started teaching the kids how to play the game at the expense of winning points, Zehler said. We went 8-11 last year, but I knew we would be a contender in the MML this season.
Seniors Holly McGheley, Courtney Hazelton, Heather Groggel, Chrissy Krause and Rachael Pierce and foreign exchange student Silvia Lizerani (Italy) provide leadership.
We also have three juniors (Sara Stevens, Lori Bower and Anne Arlinghaus) who have combined for nearly 300 kills, Zehler said. Sophomore Jassalyn Vallave has also contributed.
